Recording guide
Starting a recording
Open your workspace home in Audiote. You will see a large record button in the center. Press it to start recording. Your browser will ask for microphone permission the first time.
Once recording starts, a row for the new recording appears immediately in your recent recordings list. You can open the recording detail, add notes, and see the player all while recording is in progress.
Stopping a recording
During the first 5 seconds, the active control shows an X because stopping would discard the clip. After 5 seconds, it changes to the normal stop button and saves the audio when pressed.
For recordings from 5 to 30 seconds, Audiote saves the audio and asks whether to transcribe. Recordings 30 seconds or longer follow the normal processing flow.
Browser compatibility
Recording requires a modern browser with MediaRecorder API support. The following browsers work:
- Google Chrome (recommended)
- Microsoft Edge
- Firefox
- Safari 14.1+ on macOS and iOS
For best results, use Chrome on desktop. Safari on iOS has known limitations with long recordings when the screen locks.
Reliability tips
Browser recording is inherently less reliable than a native app. To minimize recording failures:
- Keep Audiote open and in the foreground while recording
- Do not refresh or navigate away during recording
- On mobile, keep the screen awake and the app active
- For very long recordings, consider a dedicated recording app and upload the file afterward
For best reliability during long recordings, keep Audiote open and active.
If a recording fails
If a recording shows "Needs attention," the audio may still be saved but transcription failed. You can retry transcription from the recording page. If the retry button is not available, contact support.
